Manager at restaurant previously robbed by man with samurai sword takes gun from would-be robber

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police say three men tried to rob a Kansas City restaurant that was robbed earlier this year by a man wielding a samurai sword.

The suspects in Sunday evening's robbery had no swords, but one of them did pull a .38 revolver on employees working at the Church's Chicken at 55th and Prospect.

Video posted on the Kansas City Police Department's YouTube channel shows the manager grabbing the gun from the suspect and the three men running out of the store. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see the video.

No shots were fired and nobody was injured. The attempted robbery happened at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.

Edward Turner, the employee who grabbed the gun, said the gunman should go to church -- not Church's Chicken.

"It's not good being a dead hero, but while we're alive we're painting a picture of what we want tomorrow to look like," Turner said. "(You) shouldn't come up in here, especially with a loaded weapon."

Police described all three suspects as black males between 18 and 27 years old and about 5 foot 8 to 5 foot 10.

The suspect who had the gun taken away from him weighed between 140 and 180 pounds, was wearing a black hooded Carhart jacket, a black baseball cap and black pants with white designs on the back.

Another suspect weighed between 160 and 190 pounds, wore a hooded Carhart jacket, a brown stocking camp, a striped polo and jeans, according to police.

The third suspect weighed between 140 and 190 pounds. He wore a gray coat with multiple front pockets, black pants and black and white shoes.

Police have not made any arrests in the samurai sword robbery. It happened on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at about10 p.m. To see video of that incident, visit http://bit.ly/SLniG2 .
