INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Convicted murderer Anthony Standifer testified in a Jackson County courtroom Friday in his bid to get his conviction overturned.
He was convicted two years ago of murdering Beverly Crowl, an employee with the Independence Police Department. Prosecutors say Standifer and three others were trying to rob a drug dealer but mistakenly broke into Crowl's house and fatally shot her in the head.
On the witness stand Friday, Standifer said he did not have a good attorney and that he was not even at the crime scene when the murder happened. He only admitted to helping plan the robbery.
Standifer wants his conviction for second-degree murder overturned. The Jackson County District Judge is waiting to gets a deposition in the case and is expected to make a ruling in 30 days.
