JOHNSON CO., Kan. - Miami county and Johnson County Sheriff's Departments are asking for help to solve a disturbing crime on I-35 at around 7:30 Friday night.
They want to know who pointed a gun and fired into a passing car, hitting the driver.
The driver was hit in the leg but he is expected to be ok. I-35 was shut down at the scene for several hours.
Police didn't have any information on the suspect but were on the ground searching,
the Kansas Highway Patrol and three sheriffs' departments searched for a suspect on the ground and with a helicopter.
Investigators know that a bullet struck the driver going southbound on I-35 just off of Edgerton Road. Another passenger and three children were in the car but were not injured.
The area is very rural, with no nearby buildings, so it is unclear where the gunfire originated. That is why investigators are asking for the public's help if drivers were in the area anytime last night and may have seen anything suspicious.
