The family of a young man struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver while taking an Uber home from a party is grieving the loss.

"We're gonna miss (sic) I'm gonna miss my son he was part of my life I feel empty," Martin Jimenez told 41 Action News in an exclusive interview Tuesday night.

He told us on Friday night his son, Oscar Jimenez, and a friend went to a party in Kansas City. At the end of the night Jimenez took an Uber to their Lenexa, Kan. home.

But on Interstate 435 near 103rd Street the young man felt sick and had the driver pull over.

That when's prosecutors say 19-year-old Alannis Bremer careened into Oscar Jimenez, 24, before she and her car tumbled into a nearby ditch.

Oscar Jimenez would never get to pick up his parents at the airport Monday morning. They were vacation in Hawaii.

"I feel that something was wrong so we started looking for him, calling friends, I called my daughter maybe she knew something until police, they showed up and they gave me this horrific news about my son," Martin Jimenez said.

Oscar Jimenez's parents learned Monday afternoon the violent impact threw their son into the treeline.

"I want to see my son and I was told I can't because there's a lot of damage to his body,"  Martin Jimenez said.

The 24-year-old man, who graduated Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, loved to travel and worked as a machinist at his father's shop.

"It was a wonderful time that we got," Martin Jimenez said. "It's gonna be hard for me to go back to my shop and not seeing him there anymore."

In court documents, Bremer told police she fell asleep behind the wheel and admitted that she drank 4 beers before the crash.

She also told a detective "It was probably not a good idea. ... I totally admit that"

Martin Jimenez said he wants people to know drinking and driving has consequences.

"I don't know if she's going to be able to live with this and from the deepest of my heart we're going to forgive her but we want justice," he said.

Bremer remains at the hospital recovering from her injuries.

She is charged with involuntary manslaughter. If convicted she faces up to 15 years in prison.

Prosecutors have asked for a $100,000 cash only bond.
