Fear of explosives evacuates homes near standoff with man in Kansas City, Mo., house

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Authorities in Kansas City, Mo, evacuated homes surrounding a standoff with a man they feared may have explosives inside his house.

The standoff was reported to be over at about 11:10 a.m.

Police were called to the 5800 block of N. Colorado Avenue on a suicidal party almost four hours earlier.

Officers initiated a standoff with the man and set up a command post nearby at a church at 57th and N. Brighton.

Police tell 41 Action News the man works in construction and may have had access to explosives. Out of an abundance of caution, they told nearby residents to leave their homes.

It wasn't immediately clear how many homes had been evacuated. Authorities were waiting to clear the house before they allowed the evacuated residents back into their homes.
