Former Northmoor city marshal charged with child sex crimes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A former Northmoor, Mo., city marshal has been accused of sex crimes involving a minor.

Nelson J. Burgen, 50, of Knob Noster, Mo., faces charges of sexual misconduct in the second degree and statutory sodomy in the first degree, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

According to court documents, the Children's Division abuse hotline received a call alleging Burgen had sexual relations with two juvenile females.

The probable cause statement said the alleged incidents occurred in Burgen's home during a game of "Truth or Dare."

Burgen served as the Northmoor city marshal in 1990, according to Mayor Harlan Shaver, Jr. Northmoore is northeast of Riverside in Platte County.

Mayor Shaver said Burgen held the position for one year before he resigned and relocated.

Burgen was arraigned Friday morning in Warrensburg, Mo. He is currently being held in the Johnson County Jail in Centerview, Mo., on a $25,000 bond.
