High speed chase turns into manhunt in Johnson County

JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. - Police have called off the search for the driver of a white SUV involved in a pursuit on Wednesday evening, but are still searching for answers.

The chase started just before 5 p.m., Wednesday and as of Thursday morning, the suspect is still on the loose.

Officers were trying to catch at least one person wanted on felony warrants. The chase moved along I-435 then north into Leawood.

At one point, the suspect hit another car heading east on 103rd then bumped into another vehicle.

The pursuit came to an end just northeast of 103rd at Stateline when Skytracker showed the driver get out of the vehicle and ran through the neighborhood. He was seen throwing something and at one point, he even looked straight up at Skytracker.

Minutes later, police officers took a male into custody who was believed to be the passenger of the vehicle.

The driver has not yet been located, but police are still actively searching. Authorities believe he is in a home near 100th Terrace and Mercier. They knocked on doors of homes in the area with flashlights and dogs being used to search the area.
