Standoff in Waldo neighborhood over as police take suspect into custody

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - UPDATE, 5:20 p.m.: Police have taken the suspect into custody. A woman at the scene was also taken into custody.

ORIGINAL STORY: KCMO police are in a standoff with a barricaded subject in the Waldo neighborhood.

KCPD officers were on patrol around 1 p.m. when they spotted the vehicle of a suspect wanted on multiple felony warrants. 

Police attempted to talk to the suspect, but the suspect remained in his home. As of 4:30 p.m., officers have cut power to the home and are negotiating with the man to come out peacefully. 

Authorities called the standoff at 1:30 p.m. after failing to reach the subject in a residence on the 200 block of West 77th Terrace.

 

As of 3 p.m., police were evacuating the block of 77th and Terrace between Wornall and Main Street before attempting to enter the residence. 

KCPD spokesperson Kari Thompson said the suspect has a "violent" history so officers are acting cautiously. 

Traffic is flowing in the area near where police have established their command post. Traffic was previously blocked in the intersection of 78th Street and Main.
