KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City man said he fell asleep at the wheel and now’s he’s been charged with the death of a little girl.
Eric Gahagans said it was like a movie when the car he was driving went off the road.
On Monday, prosecutors charged the 23-year-old with involuntary manslaughter, driving without a license and possession of marijuana.
Last summer, he, his girlfriend and her 1-year-old daughter spent the night in her car at a park. She told police she and Gahagans drank a little tequila before falling asleep. She said she woke up moments before the crash.
She and her daughter were thrown from the vehicle; the little girl died. The police report said the child’s car seat was not secured and she only had a lap belt protecting her.
According to the police report, the car flew 300 feet off the road and into a bridge embankment and said there were no signs Gahagans tried to stop.
Gahagans is being held on $75,000 bond.
