Police are investigating Kansas City's 97th homicide of 2016.
Authorities were called to the 3700 block of Fremont Street in KCMO around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening after reports of shots being fired.
Upon arrival, officials located a male victim in his 30s with gunshot wounds and no signs of life. He was pronounced dead a short time later. The victim has been identified as Jeremy Eubanks, 37, of KCMO.
Witnesses say a dark colored compact car was observed fleeing from the scene after the sound of gunshots.

Aside from this fatal shooting, two other people were killed in an apparent murder-suicide near Loose Park Tuesday evening.
Kansas City's Violence Task Force has nine potential solutions to prevent crime in the city.
It starts with community outreach, engaging the communities most affected by violence to understand the root cause. The force wants to create a comprehensive map of all the anti-violence agencies and organizations, look at the their mission, audits, how they're funded and create financial plans for them.
Other recommendations:
- Create a full time position to coordinate anti-violence efforts.
- Create a public education campaign similar to smoking or drunk driving.
- Establish community resource centers and a training building.
- Come up with a youth master plan, murder review board and conduct a CDC gun violence study.
- Consider backing state legislative change regarding guns and protective orders.
The Violent Task Force certainly has a lot to accomplish, but says there's more planning to do.
