Police are searching for the person who killed a man in a shopping center parking lot Monday afternoon.

Police responded to the Midway Shopping Center at 2:19 p.m. after police said the wounded man staggered through a row of parked cars before collapsing in front of a Jeep.

Word of the shooting spread quickly and while officers roped off the crime scene raw emotions from family and friends spilled over.

Myrna Pearson told 41 Action News the man killed is her 21-year-old grandson Clarence Buford.

"His mother called me and said, 'Clarence gotten shot up by Midway--at Midway shopping mall,' and I just rushed out here," Pearson said.

She said Buford worked for the Woodbridge Corporation, a company that manufactures car seat covers in the metro.

Pearson is angry how Buford died.

"It makes me mad all the shootings going on; they can figure out something else if they want to shoot oh my goodness lord," Pearson said.

Police said security cameras will help piece together a timeline.

"So we can establish exactly where it happened, exactly what happened," Officer T.J. Tomasic, a KCKPD spokesperson, said.

KCKPD also encouraged more people to come forward.

"It's a senseless crime you know, you had a good man who worked hard and tried to do good for himself. Speak up, let's find out who did it and let us take care of him," Tomasic said.

If know you saw or heard anything, call KCK police or the KC Crimestoppers Hotline 816-474-8477 (TIPS).
