KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Two people are under arrest after ramming three police cars and driving through backyards trying to elude police in a high-speed chase in Kansas City, Kan.
Initially, police were responding to a car accident near Turner Diagonal and Kaw Drive. While en route, they learned that a woman injured in the accident had left the scene in a brown Bronco. Police spotted the SUV and tried to pull it over; the driver refused to stop, initiating a chase.
The chase started just after 8 p.m. Wednesday and soon ended in Rob and Irene Morris' neighborhood near 81st and Ella Avenue. They heard police sirens and a police helicopter overhead before running to the front yard.
"I was a little scared because I was afraid they were going to hit our car," Irene Morris said.
During the chase, the driver left the road and drove through residential backyards before crashing into a street sign and sliding into someone's front yard. Rob Morris said the crash was assisted by the nudging of a patrol car.
"They come down this way. And when they got down here, that's when the cop hit them in the back and swung them in the yard," he said. "The cops got out and pulled their guns."
The male driver and female passenger were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and arrested.
