Kearney teacher Rhett Rigby pleads not guilty of sexually abusing female student

KEARNEY, Mo. - A former Kearney Junior High School teacher pleaded not guilty Tuesday afternoon of charges of sexual abuse against a young female student.

Rhett Rigby, who taught algebra at the school and coached baseball and football for the district, is accused of abusing the girl multiple times between September or October of 2012 and May 2013.

The alleged abuse happened in Rigby's classroom and at the victim's apartment, according to police.

The now-15-year-old victim said she exchanged explicit emails with the former teacher.

Rigby's attorney, Jake Jacoby, decline to comment on the case. Rigby is due in court in July.
