Man appears on court on pre-meditated murder charge

OLATHE, Kan. - A man who intentionally set his house on fire in February appeared in court Friday on charges he wanted to do more harm than just set his home ablaze.

Johnson County, Kan. prosecutors have charged William Outhet, 58, with premeditated murder and arson stemming from an incident in February.

In that incident, Outhet set his home on fire, but in the course of fighting the blaze, firefighters reported hearing loud explosions and pops coming from the home.

When crews eventually found Outhet in his second-floor bedroom, the man was lying in his bed with a shotgun over his chest, a pistol at his side and other weapons and ammunition inside the house.
