Man arrested for Raytown, Mo., arson incidents

RAYTOWN, Mo. - Police in Raytown, Mo., said the person they have in custody is responsible for fires at two different locations.

Officers were called around 10:30 a.m. Thursday to the 11500 block of 63rd Street in regards to a dumpster fire behind the Charity Thrift Mart.

Store Manager Leann Venable wasn't prepared for the fire.

"I came on the overhead and said please, we've got a fire and at that point we could smell it. It was coming in our store," Venable said.

Firefighters from Raytown and Kansas City quickly put out the fire.

Nearly two hours later, police responded to the 6400 block of Woodson Road in regard to a vehicle fire. The vehicle was a box truck that belonged to the River Church.

Shortly after the second call, a man found in the immediate area was arrested.

No one was hurt during the incidents.

The suspect is being held on an investigative hold. No charges have been filed yet by the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office.
