Kansas City man charged with murder of dog trainer

Crime occurred in December at western KCK home

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A 50-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man has been charged with the Dec. 17 murder of dog trainer Peter Belmont inside his home in Kansas City, Kan.

Darrell Broxton was being held Saturday inside the Wyandotte County Jail, charged with first-degree murder, burglary, felony theft and misdemeanor theft. He was arrested and booked into the jail on Friday afternoon.

There were no other details available about Broxton's arrest, but Wyandotte County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. Kelli Bailiff said the sheriff's office was not the arresting agency. She said it was likely that Broxton had been arrested by members of a multi-jurisdictional task force working on the Belmont case. No one from the Wyandotte County District Attorney's office could be reached for comment Saturday.
