Man dead after standoff with Kansas City police

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A man is dead after a standoff with Kansas City police overnight.

Officers were called to the 500 block of E. 129th Terrace, near Blue Ridge, around 11 p.m. Thursday on a reported disturbance.

The man was firing gunshots inside his home and threatening to take his life. Police evacuated six homes around the area.

Cpt. Tye Grant, with the Kansas City Police Department, said the man fired at officers around six times. According to a news release, a tactical officer said he fired at the man after he saw him point a gun out of a window.

By 3 a.m., police had entered the house and found the suspect dead from a gunshot wound. It was not clear if the wound was self-inflicted or from police.

The cause of death is under investigation. His identity had not been released.
