Man fleeing KCK police crashes into innocent bystander

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - An innocent bystander was injured Friday night after being struck by a man fleeing police.

Police first spotted a Pontiac Grand Prix speeding and making improper turns at about 6:40 p.m. in the area of 55th Street and State Avenue.

Officers chased the suspect northbound on 55th Street then eastbound on Parallel Parkway to 18th Street.

About five minutes into the chase, police ended their pursuit after the suspect started driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Parallel.

The suspect crashed into an innocent bystander in another car near 10th and Parallel. Police said the bystander's injuries were not life-threatening.

Police took the suspect into custody after the crash.
