Man sentenced to 25 years in Richmond woman's murder

RICHMOND, Mo. - On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Brandon Simpson to 25 years in prison for the murder of a Ray County woman in a sentencing hear at the Ray County Courthouse that lasted only 20 minutes.

Michelle Rheuport, a 40-year-old mother, was found dead in her home on the morning of May 23, 2012.  Her murder was the first homicide in Richmond since 1996.

Rheuport's mother Lucille Park said she will feel safer now that Simpson has been sentenced.

"I'm satisfied with the sentence. Twenty-five years in prison is a long time for a man his age," she said.

Park said she had only met Simpson a couple days before her daughter's murder. The last conversation Park had with her daughter was the night before she was found dead.

"I hate people going to prison. I forgive him, but he needs the punishment for his actions." she said.

Simpson was originally charged with first-degree murder, but last month he made a plea with the court where he pleaded guilty and the charge was reduced to second-degree.

He has been behind bars for the last year and a half that's where will stay for the next 25 years. Simpson will be 51 when he has served his full sentence.

Police also arrested two other suspects for her murder.
