KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A man who shot a Kansas City police officer last week died from a gunshot wound suffered in the exchange.
Joel Bravard, 26, was injured during a Dec. 19 exchange with police in the 500 block of Lawndale Avenue and died Dec. 24, according to police.
Police were attempting to arrest Bravard after he failed to show up for his Nov. 5 court date in Platte County. Tactical Response Unit officers and detectives from the Fugitive Unit were at the house when Bravard began shooting, police said..
One bullet hit a tactical officer in a leg, but his injury was described a minor. Officers fired back into the house whiel moving their colleague to safety.
They were able to safely enter the house and found Bravard with critical injuries from what appeared to be gunshots. Police were not yet certain if the wounds Bravard suffered were self-inflicted or if he'd been struck by return fire.
Police announced his death Tuesday morning.
