MAP: Sex offender registry provides resources for parents of trick-or-treaters

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - There are more than 16.000 people listed on Missouri's sex offender registry. A tool from the state allows you to search for registered sex offenders in your neighborhood and see them on a map.

According to the state, registered sex offenders are required to provide their address in the the Missouri Public Sex Offender Registry.

When you search the state database, you have several options. If you are looking for a particular person, you can type in as much or as little information as you know.

TO VIEW A LIST:
In most cases, you will want to do a very broad search. Simply typing your ZIP code into the search tool will give you a list (with photos if they are available) of every registered sex offender who shares your ZIP code.

TO VIEW A MAP:
On the top left corner of the screen there is an option for you to search by address. You will be able to type your address and then the database builds a map centered around your home. You can search from 400 feet around your home to 25 or more miles surrounding the address entered.

KANSAS LIST:
The Kansas registry includes criminals and sex offenders.
It allows for search by name or location. It also has a community notification option if a sex offender registers a home, school or work address in your community.
