KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City man was sentenced Friday to 13 years in prison for killing the mother of his children in 2012.
Morris E. Winfield, pleaded guilty on Feb. 19, 2013 to second degree murder in the case of Angela Randall, 46. Randall's son found her body Feb. 7, 2012 in her Kansas City home, near East 47th Street and Overton Avenue.
Randall's son Montae Randall took the stand today on his mother's behalf and against his father. "It is not gonna make me or my family feel a lot better because my mom is still gone," he said. "But to see that he is off the streets... It is alright for now, I guess."
Winfield's attorney claimed Winfield was high on drugs and didn't intend to beat Randall to death. Winfield cried during sentencing Friday morning.
"It is very difficult," said Montae. "Every day I think about it. Some nights I still can't sleep."
Randall leaves behind four children and 10 grandchildren.
