Neighbors on alert after woman assaulted in Olathe apartment complex parking lot

OLATHE, Kan. - Neighbors in Olathe were on high alert Friday night after a woman was assaulted in an apartment complex in the 11800 Block of south Shannon Street around midnight on December 6.

Police said a man forced a 21-year-old woman into her car, showed her a knife and then demanded cash and ATM cards. He drove her to a nearby business where she handed over what he wanted. He then drove her back to where her car was parked near her house, got out the car and fled on foot.

Several neighbors felt uneasy knowing the suspect has not been caught.

"I'm a little bit freaked out because I always feel like it was a good part of town, it's well lit and I never really think about anything like that being around," Andy Banard said.

Police describe the suspect as a black male around 6 feet tall with a dark colored jacked and a colored beanie. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS
