An Overland Park mother is charged with driving under the influence among other charges. On Wednesday, she broke down in tears in court after learning she cannot have any contact with her son.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, a trooper pulled 21-year-old Taylor Sharp over for speeding on westbound I-435 near Roe Avenue.

Court documents state she was driving 93 miles an hour. The trooper noticed she was drunk and looked in the back where her 3-year-old son wasn’t strapped in.

The highway patrol told 41 Action News Sharp was also involved in a hit-and-run crash in Kansas City, Missouri.

No one wanted to talk when 41 Action News went to Sharp’s listed address in Overland Park where neighbors said she lives with her mother.

Only Sharp’s lawyer and 41 Action News showed up in court Wednesday afternoon where the young mother wiped away tears as the judge told her why she was there.

Sharp’s weeping turned into bawling when the judge explained she won’t be able see or speak with her son as a condition of her bond.

She has had previous run-ins with the law. Sharp’s attorney said this is her first felony.

Sharp’s bond is set for $10,000. Her next court date set for next Wednesday, Sept. 7.
