OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - A mother who was allegedly intoxicated when trying to pick up her child from school made her first court appearance Wednesday.
According to police, 29-year-old Ashlee Huber tried to pick up her five-year-old daughter from Comanche Elementary when other parents and staff noticed she looked like she had been drinking.
Overland Park police were called and arrested her at school.
"This demonstrates where the staff of our school is focused on the safety of our students." Leigh Anne Meal, Shawnee Mission District Spokeswoman said in a statement.
Huber also had her four-year-old daughter in the car at the time of her arrest. Her children are now with a relative.
The Johnson County District Attorney said she was charged with driving under the influence and having a child in the car under 14. If sentenced, Huber could spend at the most, six months in jail.
