Two men charged in Warrensburg businessman's murder

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Two men have been charged in the shooting death of a Warrensburg, Mo., businessman.

Reginald Singletary, Jr., 27, and Ziyad Abid, 23, were both charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action late Wednesday afternoon.

According to the criminal complaint, Singletary, a former employee and assistant football coach at Winnetonka High School in the North Kansas City School District, told police he was hired by Abid to kill Whitworth.

A group of 35 investigators convened Tuesday to form the Rural Missouri Major Case Squad, and began probing Whitworth's death.

Police were called to Whitworth's home, in the 1000 block of Sunflower Street, around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Arriving officers found him dead in front of his house.

Whitworth operated two Warrensburg bars -- Bodie's on West Pine Street and Molly's on Holden Street.
