Interstate 70 reopens after fatal shooting

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Authorities reopened Interstate 70 eastbound just past Lee's Summit Road after a fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon in Independence.

According to Independence police, officers pulled over a vehicle matching the description of a car that was involved in a robbery. 

The driver of the car got out of the car and started to shoot at officers.  The officers returned fire at the shooter.

No officers were injured but the driver of the car died in the shooting.

Kansas City SCOUT reported that the traffic back-up started around 1 p.m. By 4 p.m., all eastbound lanes on I-70 were reopened.
