KCMO murder suspect escapes during 6-hour standoff with police

A man was charged after a woman was found shot to death in a vehicle in Kansas City, Missouri. 

According to authorities, a woman was found shot to death in a truck near 26th and Van Brunt in Kansas City, Missouri, on January 17.The woman was later identified as Brenda Vera, 24. 

The man who was believed to have shot her was in a standoff with police for six hours and refused to come out of a home in the same block.

When officers entered the home overnight, no one was found inside.

Prosecutors charged Eric Marquez, 25, in the woman's death. He was charged with abandonment of a corpse and unlawful possession of a firearm. According to court documents, Marquez's family told police Marquez said he accidentally shot the victim during a road rage incident. 

Marquez is not in police custody.
