Kansas City police say a man tried to steal several electronic devices from 5 Bar Electronics at 4601 St. John, but employees fought back against the intruder.

Police say the robbery happened Wednesday around 5:45 p.m. As the suspect was attempting to steal the items, the owner and an employee fought back to prevent him from leaving.

During the fight, the suspect grabbed a fire extinguisher and discharged it at the two individuals.

The next day, the owner worked to clean up the mess left behind by the fire extinguisher.

“He just started spraying it, as my partner down and tackled him, it just dropped and once it dropped, it exploded everywhere,” the owner of the store said.

The suspect tried to take off with $500 worth of tablets and phones.

The owner pinned the suspect down until police arrived.

The suspect suffered minor injuries but the owner said it could have ended differently, “At the moment I was carrying, and at the moment, I thought about it, he has no firearm so I can handle it in a completely different light.”

The suspect was taken into custody.

Police said they couldn’t release surveillance video of the incident until formal charges were filed.
