LAWRENCE, Kan. - A suspect is in police custody after using a taxi to escape after robbing a Lawrence credit union on Saturday.
It all started around 11 a.m. when Lawrence Police received a robbery call at the Truity Credit Union, located at 3400 W. 6th St. Employees told police a man came in and demanded money. Police say he did not have a weapon.
Surveillance video shows the suspect left in a taxi, which had been waiting in the parking lot. Investigators were able to locate the driver and determined the driver was not involved in the robbery.
Investigators learned the suspect, now identified as Antonion P. Gaitan, 35, of KCK, paid the taxi driver a significant amount of money to drive to a bus station in Omaha.
Omaha Police found Gaitan at a bus station Saturday evening and took him into custody.
Gaitan, who has been linked to a bank robbery in Kansas City earlier in the week, had an outstanding warrant through the United States Marshals Service for a parole violation for a previous bank robbery conviction.
He is currently being held without bond.
