KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City teenager has been charged with the Sept. 26 murder of a man during a street robbery.
Jackson County Prosecutor on Friday charged Landrain D. Miller,17, with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Timothy Riley.
According to court records, on the day in question, Miller told a witness he had robbed a man in the 4100 block of South Benton Avenue. When the man fought back, Miller reportedly told the witness that he shot him.
Undercover police detectives on Nov. 29 purchased a weapon from Miller and had it tested at the Kansas City Regional Crime Lab. Those tests showed it to be the weapon that fired the shot that killed Riley, the prosecutor said.
After he was arrested Dec. 6, Miller confessed to police that he shot and robbed Riley, according to the prosecutor.
Prosecutors asked for a $150,000, cash-only bond. Miller was being held in the city jail in lieu of bond Friday afternoon.
