KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Copper thieves are hitting Kansas City at a furious pace, and investigators are asking for your help to stop them in the act.
In the last 30 days, the Kansas City Police Department's Central Patrol division has been called to 29 copper thefts.
Homes under construction, both new and remodeled, are a common target because authorities say the work leaves them vulnerable.
The thieves take anything made out of copper and head to scrap metal yards and make a quick dollar.
The cases are extremely difficult to prosecute because the thieves can't be arrested at the scrap metal yards, so police have to catch them in the act.
That's why police are asking for your help. If you see anything suspicious going on around homes under construction in your neighborhood, you are urged to call police.
