Vandals strike cars in east Kansas City

At least six cars damaged

KANSAS CITY, Mo - Kansas City Police responded Tuesday to at least six reports of vandalized cars on 40th Street between Bales and Agnes avenues.

"They didn't take anything, they just busted the windows all of them up and down the block," Robert Birch said, whose car was vandalized.

Birch’s three vehicles were among the cars vandals struck. His wife drives this minivan to take people and items to church.

"To me, I would say it’s a hellish type thing. Why would someone do something like this?" Birch said.

The incidents kept officers busy taking reports along 40th Street. They say the vandals fired either a BB or pellet gun to break the car windows.

This isn't the first time this type of vandalism has happened in the metro. In mid-March, 13 windows were busted in the Northland and just last month, vandals broke more than 50 cars windows in Olathe.

"It's really upsetting, it makes me angry," another victim Twyler Williams said.

Many of the car owners are paying for the repairs out-of-pocket because their car insurance deductible is too high.

Williams is one of those people and has a message to whoever did this.

"Stop it because it doesn't make sense for people to go to work every day and spend the money they have to spend on nonchalant crap like this. It's pointless," she said.

If you have any information on these acts of vandalism go ahead and contact police or the CrimeStoppers Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
