Three shifts of Kansas City Police officers worked the scene throughout the day-and-a-half investigation. According to Bowman's brother-in-law, Andrew Taylor, the couple lived in that Northland neighborhood for the past 35 years. He believed the two felt safe there other than a failed break-in about a year ago.
"She's dumbfounded by why and what's next and who would? Right now, she's resting with her daughter," Taylor explained.
Taylor said his sister left to pick up dessert on Wednesday night, was gone for less than an hour and came home to find Bowman dead.
"She left for a little bit and came back and discovered the body," he said.
Taylor is still trying to wrap his mind around his family's recent loss. He is confident police will find the person responsible after watching KCPD officers comb through the house, yard and nearby woods all day long.
"If you're the one who did it, it's better to come forward now. It'll go a lot easier for them than hiding," he said.
