Woman posts pictures of alleged abuse by boyfriend on Facebook

LIBERTY, Mo. - A 23-year-old Liberty mother says her boyfriend hit her in the head with a baseball bat late Monday night, and she wants people to know about it.

Lying in a hospital bed with a neck brace on and tubes stretched across her body, Amber Taylor took a picture of herself and posted it to 19-year-old Austin McCauley's Facebook page with the caption: "Look what Austin did to me."

According to court documents, McCauley hit Taylor with the handle end of a baseball bat at the Value Place motel in Liberty.

"He's strong enough he can hurt me with his hands, and he had to hit me in the head with a bat," Taylor said. "I just don't get it. I treated him so good."

The Clay County prosecutor charged McCauley Monday with second-degree felony assault, but McCauley plead not guilty. An attorney for McCauley has not yet been listed.

Taylor told police that she and McCauley had been living together at the motel for the last couple weeks, and they had been in an inconsistent relationship for the last nine months. She claimed McCauley had spotted her texting another man, which led to the assault.

Inside the hotel room were two mutual friends, including Trevor Powers.

"I just showed up right when it first started," Powers said. "I was so scared. I didn't have a clue what to do."

Powers said the couple had been hitting each other back and forth.

"Out of nowhere, he grabbed a bat," Powers said. "He hit her up top of the head."

According to court documents, Powers and the other friend wanted to call for an ambulance, but McCauley threatened to kill himself, at times holding a knife up to his neck.

Powers said he and the friend went outside into the hallway and called police.

Taylor said her four-year-old son Layne was also in the motel room during the fight.

"(McCauley) is not worth me dying, and my son not having a mom," Taylor said.
McCauley was arrested on an outstanding warrant. He remained at the Clay County Detention Center Wednesday night on $50,000 bail. His next court appearance is set for Dec. 31.
Friends of the victim gathered at a Liberty salon Wednesday night to support Taylor and her son.
They are organizing a fundraiser this Saturday night at Marciano's Lounge in Liberty. For more information, click here.
