Debate over costs of students transferring out of KCPS heads to judge

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Closing arguments concluded Wednesday in the debate over the costs of students wanting to transfer out of the unaccredited Kansas City Public Schools system.

Lawyers representing taxpayers in some surrounding school districts claimed that the tuition reimbursement from KCPS will not be enough to cover the costs of educating the transfer students.

Attorneys representing the state argued the number of projected student transfers is flawed and extremely high, so the cost will not be as great as some estimates.

The judge is expected to rule sometime next week.
