KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Gordon Parks Elementary School got a last-minute reprieve from a judge to stay open through part of the summer.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education ordered the Kansas City charter school be shut down earlier this month, citing low MAP scores. However, a judge issued a temporary order to keep Gordon Parks open until the end of the school's academic year, June 25.
Doug Curry, president of Gordon Parks' board of directors, said school officials sued the state after they were told to shut down. The judge will decide whether to uphold DESE's decision to close the school permanently later this summer.
