KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Low income students in the Kansas City area will have a better chance at going to college thanks to a new grant from the Education Department.
The government is giving 40 states millions of dollars to help pay for advanced placement tests, including Kansas and Missouri.
Overall, the grant totals more than $28 million. Missouri is receiving a little more than $188,000 from the grant. Kansas is getting about $82,000.
The goal is to use the grant to help kids who can't afford AP tests to pay for them. A lot of AP classes come with a college credit, so it can give kids a leg up when they graduate high school.
