KCPS superintendent hosts community event

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Public Schools Superintendent Stephen Green answered questions Sunday about the future of area schools.

At his event "On the Scene with Green" at the Kansas City Public Library, Dr. Green met with parents to discuss everything from graduation rates to earning re-accreditation.

Missouri state assessments require each district meet at least six standards to be considered for provisional accreditation. The latest report from the state shows the district only met five.

However, that is an improvement from the year before when the district met only three standards.

Superintendent Green is hopeful the district will continue to make progress.

"We are a district on an upper climb, not a downward spiral, but an upper climb, making our way slowly but surely and building the kinds of things that are in place, that will be sustaining," Green said. "Not just kind of a band-aid that, after a year or so, it goes away and then all of a sudden problems are still there."

There's another round of state assessments on the way for the district.
