KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Both Kansas and Missouri made the top 10 on the list of the 75 best college towns and cities for students, according to the American Institute of Economic Research.
Lawrence came in as the eighth best college town under 250,000 residents. Columbia ranked 10th and Manhattan came in at number 14.
The list was based on student diversity, unemployment rate, degree attainment and earning potential, among others.
The AIER pulls data from a host of federal agencies including the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics the National Science Foundation and Small Business Administration.
The number one town on the list is Ithaca, New York. Ithaca is the home of Cornell University, Ithaca College and Tompkins Cortland Community College.
Number two is Ames, Iowa, home of Iowa State University. Number three is State College, Pa., home of Penn State.
The study also ranked small, medium and large college cities.
