LIBERTY, Mo. - A sleepless night, smoked meat and generosity are helping local high school students follow their dreams.
The Liberty Rotary Club worked well into the night preparing meat for their annual fundraiser Wednesday.
“We have to stay overnight to watch the smokers and making sure the grill stays on since this is a regular club meeting on Wednesday so everyone is pitching in,” member Mario Usera said.
All the money raised from the “Rotary Butt Buster,” a BBQ fundraiser, goes toward three scholarships for Liberty area seniors. Every year, the club gives away more than $7,000. It’s money that makes a big difference.
“Just that much more they don’t have to borrow or take out a student loan, so they’re really grateful,” club president Victor Tarango said.
A rotary committee selects the scholarship recipients out of more than 100 applicants. This is the second year for the Liberty Rotary Club’s fundraiser.
