DENVER, Colorado - The renovation at the University of Denver's Penrose Library is stirring up more than just dust. Students are upset with the decision to pull most books off the shelves.
DU's Penrose Library is crowded now. Renovation plans will open it up for more gathering spots by putting 80 percent of the volumes in remote storage. But the decision to keep just 20 percent of the books in the library is riling up some students.
Faculty members have also complained.
Driving the change is the fact just 20 percent of the books see 80 percent of the usage. So DU's library staff is busy now marking what books will return to the shelves
Critics of the book storage say they were never consulted, but DU makes it clear any stored books can be quickly retrieved by request.
Bigger schools like Colorado University already store library books off campus
