Missouri senators discuss plan to take over KCPS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - An effort to take over the Kansas City schools could be accelerated.

Missouri senators talked about plans to take over the district as soon as possible on Wednesday afternoon.

The Kansas City district lost accreditation, but it has two years to get that status back before the state gets involved. Senators say they want to get involved sooner.

But superintendent Dr. Steve Green said the district has it under control.

"This team that I've built here -- the administrative team -- the teachers, the staff -- we're positioned to adapt and to continue our focus regardless of what happens in that whole legislative process," he said.

Green assured parents the district has its priorities in the right place and a good game plan to move the district forward.
