Jackson County spell-off this Saturday

JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. - Two students who survived 66 championship rounds in the Jackson County Spelling Bee will face off again Saturday.

Highland Parks 5th grader Sophia Hoffman and Frontier School of Innovation 7th grader Kush Sharma will be competing against each other again. Last weekend, the judges simply ran out of words.

The winner goes to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington this May.

“I’m just trying to cram words in and try to learn how words are built, that could be me in the tie-breaker competition,” Sharma said.

The spell-off is drawing international attention, even from media outlets in India and the U.K.
