NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. - Perfect through the first two days, Olathe 10-year-old Vanya Shivashankes spelled two more words correctly Thursday before being eliminated in the sixth round in the 2012 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Vanya stumbled on pejerrey in semifinal action.
Lee's Summit student Jordan Hoffman advanced from the round of 50 and was one of nine finalists who competed Thursday night for the Bee title.
Earlier in the day, Vanya spelled mumpsimus right in the fourth round and mascalage correctly in Round Five of the Bee
Vanya , whose sister, Kavya, won the Scripps National Spelling Bee three years ago, was the only speller to earn a perfect score in both the computer test Tuesday and first two rounds on stage Wednesday.
