Sumner Academy hosts forensics debate tournament

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Sumner Academy of Arts and Science hosted a forensics tournament Saturday. Speech and debate students competed in various categories delivering historic speeches, dramatic writings and creative speeches.

They were judged on vocal variety, stage presence, content and expressiveness. Hundreds of students from throughout Kansas were competing.

41 Action News weekend anchor Cythia Newsome was one of dozens of invited guest-judges. Her little sister, in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, Kayla Colding, asked her to be a judge. She's on the Debate and Forensics team at Sumner Academy.

Newsome said being a judge was a tough job because she could see that students were well-prepared and did an excellent job. They're all winners in her book and she wishes them great success.
