GARDNER, Kan. - The superintendent of Gardner schools and two other district officials were fired Thursday night.
The school board voted 4-3 at a special session to terminate the contracts of Dr. Bill Gilhaus, Executive Director of Administrative Services Lana Gerber and Executive Director of Educational Services Dr. Christy Ziegler.
Board Member Rob Shippy said the board voted to terminate the trio “with cause.”
The district offices released a statement Friday saying the vote was "to move the district in a new direction." The termination is effective immediately, the statement said.
Pam Stranathan, previously the director of secondary education, was named the interim superintendent.
One parent we spoke with backs the board's decision.
"They're seeing the light and they want to start making changes because they're having so many complaints and so many problems in areas they shouldn't be having problems," parent Vanessa Finnell said.
Friday night, Superintendent Gilhaus released a statement.
"No means of due process and no cause for separation was provided," the statement reads. "This action came only two weeks after I received a very favorable annual evaluation."
