UMKC program offers career help for vets

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Veterans interested in science or math careers can get help through a UMKC program.

This month, The Veterans in STEM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Program, is hosting special events to help vets find a job.

They can get personalized coaching, resume help and networking tips.

Veteran Jamison Ryan took advantage of the program last year, and now works on the staff.

"So providing that mentorship as being someone who has been through that experience, I can shed some light on steps that they need to take," Ryan said. "Let them know that that feeling is normal, you'll get past it, and you'll get comfortable in your new surroundings and your new life, the more you're in it.

The Veterans in STEM Program is funded by a National Science Foundation grant.
