KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places" will no longer serve as the 6th inning "anthem" for the Kansas City Royals.
Royals spokesman Toby Cook confirmed the move to 41 Action News Friday.
Cook says the team will let fans choose the next anthem. During the months of April and May, fans will be able to text vote which song they'd like to hear from a list of selected songs. The winner will be played during Royals games for the rest of the season.
However, Cook told 41 Action News one of those song choices offered could be "Friends in Low Places."
The Royals started using "Friends in Low Places," as the 6th inning stretch anthem in 2008.
The news made the rounds on social media Friday morning. Many fans rejoiced when they caught word, but others were crushed.
