CDC report shows 830 kids died from seasonal flu in 8-year time period

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A report released Monday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed 830 kids died from seasonal flu between 2004-2012.

According to the report, most of the kids were not vaccinated and nearly half had no underlying health concerns.

Public health officials say these findings reinforce that prevention is the best strategy, and the best route for for prevention is vaccination.

It's important to note that number kids who died from the flu may be underestimated because they include only deaths that were confirmed by a flu test.

The tally of 830 deaths does not include the 167 pediatric deaths from last year's flu season.

The CDC recommends that all children 6 months or older get the flu vaccine every year.
